Kyanite is a beautiful stone when you can find it clean and cobalt blue.

Kyanite gets its name from the Greek "kynos" - blue, and is found in Myanmar (Burma), Brazil, Switzerland, Africa and the USA.

Kyanite has a unique standing on the Moh's scale of hardness, being only a 4-4.5 along the axis and a 6-7 across. This causes Kyanite to be better suited to earrings and pendants.
