Spessartite garnet was named in 1832 for the Spessart region in Bavaria where it was originally discovered.
Spessartite garnet can now be found in numerous locations which include, but are not limited to: Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Madagascar, Brazil, Australia and various regions of Africa.
The material found in Namibia is known in the market as Mandarin Garnet. The following inclusion information on Namibian Mandarin Garnets is taken from "Gems, 6th edition" by Webster:
"Most Mandarin Garnets from Namibia have a sleepy appearance".
This is caused by numerous small crystal and needle inclusions and wispy veils can be visible to the unaided eye. Inclusions in these stones can be black manganese oxide specks, healed cracks representing thin liquid filled cavities or fingerpint-type feathers.
The appeal of the Mandarin Garnet is its bright orange color. We have selected the following stones because of their fantastic color.
